Week 13: Light the World

Last week was Thanksgiving and I totally forgot to post.

Anyways, I've had a lot of thoughts running through my mind this week.

One of them is Light the World. Light the World has started this month and it has really made me reflect and appreciate those around me. One of the first sharing from this week was to share about someone that is Christlike and I also chose to make a gratitude post about my fiance.

He is absolutely amazing and always looking for ways to serve me. I loved the responses I got on my post and also seeing others and the people that they chose to highlight on social media.

This reminded me of the GOOD that social media can bring. It can help us show our appreciation for those we love and inspire others to do the same! I remembered to do the challenge because I saw someone else's post.

You never know the good influence you can have on someone else :)

Week 14: Dear Miley Cyrus

This week we had to write a letter to a prominent person about something we are passionate about. Here is my letter: Dear Miley Cyrus, I want you to know that I understand why you express your opinions so publicly on social media. As a celebrity, you have the power to influence others, for better or for worse. However, I think that before you start proclaiming that “abortion is healthcare” as a blanket statement you should probably take a moment to consider what that statement implies.  To start, I don’t entirely disagree with you. I believe that abortion should be allowed and available in cases of incest, rape, or health risk to the mother or baby. However, this isn’t an excuse to just have an abortion because you “want to” or “you’re not ready” or it was an “accident.” Sex is a big deal. There is a risk of pregnancy every time you have sex. If you are not willing to take that risk or take serious precautions to prevent it then to be honest you shouldn’t be having sex. Y...

Week 7: PG-13 movies

This week we talked about media violence in class. Someone made a comment that got me thinking and bothered me just a little. They talked about how after their family watched a PG-13 movie that they started fighting, almost blaming the movie for the fight. Now the movie may have been a factor but I promise that it didn't start that fight on its own. I think sometimes we jump to conclusions too quickly. That's like saying that anyone who watches PG-13 movies is going to get into fights and the righteous that don't won't, which we know isn't true. We also learned in class that some people are more susceptible to the effects of media than others. I personally watch PG-13 movies. However, I'm still picky about the movies that I watch. I don't just watch anything. I like to look up movie content and see what it's about and how it's been rated and why. Not all PG-13 movies even contain violence. We are told to be thoughtful about the media we con...

Week 2: If I were a song...

This week in class we talked about "If you were a song - what would you be?" I thought a lot about that. A little too long because I forgot to do this post over the weekend... But anyway, it's not easy to say what song I would be. But eventually, I chose What Ifs by Kane Brown. I am OBSESSED with Kane Brown. Seriously. But I love this song particularly because it talks about "what ifs." I am a HUGE what if person. I am always wondering what if I do this or what if I don't do this what will happen. And it's a problem. But this song talks about the good sides of what-ifs. What if things do work out? What if this is the right road? When I hear that song I think of the good decisions I've made in my life and where they've brought me. I also think about the decisions that weren't the best, but that without them I wouldn't be where I am and who I am today. I do sometimes think of my friend Jake who originally showed this song to me. Thi...
